Drawing Fundamentals for Teens

Always wanted to be better at drawing? Need something to inspire you to practice with your pencils? Drawing fundamentals can help with both! This course is suitable for anyone; either a beginner just learning how to draw or an intermediate looking to improve their skill.

This class is a great foundation for more advanced drawing classes or moving into the fundamentals of painting or mixed media.

The course will involve a significant amount of in-class drawing and we will cover concepts like…

  • Drawing terms
  • Gesture drawing
  • Various types of shading
  • Blind and regular contour drawing
  • “Doodling” – practice of drawing line and shapes
  • Drawing from imagination
  • Drawing from observation
  • Keeping a drawing journal

Our location at the LCLC offers us a unique opportunity to take mini “field trips” out of our classroom and we will occasionally draw in various locations around the facility. The library on site will also allow for some hands on research.

Upon completion, students will have an opportunity to pick their favorite drawing from the course and include it in our mini gallery show which will be held at the end of the last class. Family and friends welcome!
